There are all these new laws going up for Jews:  we can’t ride in street cars, we can’t ride our bikes, we have to go to an all Jewish school, and we can’t own a business.  In fact, my dad had to give his business away to Mr. Kraler.  I don’t understand the needs for these laws.  Jewish people are the same as everyone else.  Mom and Dad are getting more stressed as the days go on, although they try to put on a happy face for me and Margo.  People keep disappearing.  More and more people stop showing up to school every day.  I don’t know if they escape to Switzerland, go into hiding, or are captured by the Nazis.  All I know is one day they’re here, and then they’re not. Mom and Dad talk more and more to the Van Dans.  I’m not sure what they are talking about but it scares me. I feel Hitler can’t be trusted but isn’t there good in everyone?
